Problems treated by Osteopaths
Aches & Pains
An ache or pain maybe specific to a particular joint such as a knee, hip or elbow or generalized across a broad area such as the neck and upper back or low back and thigh. It may have developed over years or have come on quite suddenly. If you have been told that the problem is wear and tear or arthritis you may think that nothing can be done. In fact these problems usually respond well to osteopathic treatment. Other conditions that are frequently treated by osteopaths include 'trapped nerves', headaches, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and jaw pain. Osteopathy can also be useful in treating stress related muscular tension.
Injuries & Accidents
Pain may result from a specific incident (such as lifting, a fall, a sporting activity or a car crash) or from repetitive stain to an area as might occur when spending long periods at a computer.
Joint stiffness
Usually restricted joint movement is associated with pain but not always. For example, often patients are prompted into treatment when restricted neck rotation begins to impact on their driving.
Medical conditions
You might not associate osteopathy with many of the conditions that we treat such as asthma, sinusitis, dizziness, migraines and tinnitus. If you are not sure if osteopathy is appropriate, I’d be happy to advise you.
Pregnant mothers
Pregnancy can be a difficult time physically. Whether it is general aches and pains or other symptoms such as nausea or heartburn, osteopathy can be very helpful. Difficult deliveries are particularly challenging for the body especially because there is little opportunity for recuperation afterwards. Osteopathy can help by allowing your body to heal more quickly.
Babies & Children
Cranial osteopathy is particularly useful in the treatment of birth trauma, infant medical problems such as colic and recurrent ear infections, and ‘growing pains’ later in childhood.
